Best padel rackets for intermediate to advanced players (2026)

5 min readBy The Padel AcademyUpdated 23 Oct 2026

This is the stage where rackets start to reward good technique and punish bad habits. You want more power and precision, usually from a carbon face and a firmer feel, but you still need a racket that forgives the odd mishit in a long rally. These picks are built for exactly that step.

The short answer

Look for a carbon face, a medium or medium-firm core and a shape that matches your game: round for control, teardrop for balance, diamond only if you attack a lot. Most rackets in this range weigh 355–375 g.

Signs you're ready for this step

  • You hit the sweet spot consistently, even on fast balls.
  • You can play bandejas, víboras and smashes with control.
  • You play several times a week or compete in leagues.
  • Your current racket feels too soft: the ball "sinks" on hard hits and you want more response.

If you're not there yet, our intermediate picks will serve you better.

A general guide. Your strength, technique and arm health matter more than the label.
  • Carbon faces give a stiffer, more direct response and more power on fast swings, but less help on slow, off-centre hits.
  • Firmer cores give more power on hard shots and less on soft ones. They suit players who swing fast.
  • Balance can move towards medium-high if you finish a lot of points with overheads.

The comfort trade-off is real. If you've had arm trouble, choose a round or teardrop racket with a medium core rather than a hard diamond.

Shapes at this level

Round

Control and forgiveness. Large sweet spot near the centre. Best for beginners, juniors and control players.

Teardrop

The all-rounder. Sweet spot a little higher, mix of control and power. Popular with intermediate players.

Diamond

Power. Sweet spot high on the face, usually head-heavy. Suits advanced attacking players.

Many players at this level still choose a round or teardrop racket. A diamond only makes sense if you hit lots of overheads and finish points at the net. Central Sports' guide makes the same point: most players don't need a diamond.

Getting used to a stiffer racket

Moving from a soft, forgiving racket to a carbon one takes a few sessions. The ball comes off the face faster and you'll feel mishits more. Start with drills rather than matches: volley rallies, controlled bandejas and lobs from the back glass. Shorten your swing on volleys at first, and let the racket do more of the work on overheads. If your arm feels sore after the first week, go back to your old racket for some sessions and build up gradually.

Test before you commit

  1. Play a full session with a demo racket, not just a few rallies.
  2. Test your weakest shots, such as low volleys and balls off the back glass, not just smashes.
  3. Check your arm the next day. Stiffer rackets can take some getting used to.
  4. Compare with your current racket in the same session.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a diamond racket to improve?

No. Diamonds add power on overheads, but many strong players use round or teardrop rackets because they're more consistent across all shots.

Is a full carbon racket bad for the elbow?

Not automatically, but stiffer faces and hard cores transmit more of the impact. If you're prone to arm pain, choose a softer core and avoid a very head-heavy balance.

What weight is right at this level?

Most rackets here weigh 355–375 g. Pick a weight you can swing at full speed for a whole match without your technique breaking down.

When should I move to an advanced racket?

When you play at a high level regularly and want maximum power or precision. See our advanced picks.
